The International Space Station (ISS) has once again been the culprit behind a number of UFO sightings being reported over the weekend. The very warm weather in the UK, coupled with clear skies has no doubt led more people to being outside and spotting the space station, which has also been noticeably bright the past few evenings, as it makes it way across the sky, visible as a star-like object moving at a constant speed from west to east.
Of the seven reports made since Thursday evening, I believe that five of them can be explained by the space station on its 90-minute orbits some 248 miles above us!
If we compare the times of the reports, as well as the descriptions mostly matching how the ISS appears, with the data from Spot the Station (NASA’s ISS tracking website) it is clearly the ISS that is being seen. The witness accounts of different colours and other descriptive features are usually explained by the medium being used to record the footage, usually mobile phones, which always have trouble focusing and seeing points of lights clearly and result in the witness thinking that they are seeing something different.
The ISS will be visible over the next few days as detailed below, if it’s clear, get out and have a look for yourself, whilst also thinking about the astronauts who are up there, looking down on us!
