Curious Case Files #3 – The Royal Connection

October 6, 2026

By Natalie Pearce

Sir Peter Horsley, like so many other, lost friends, colleagues and acquaintances when he disclosed his meeting with an ET being. A rising star within the Royal Air Force (RAF), Sir Peter was Deputy Commander in Chief of the Strike Command Force.

Choosing only to disclose his contact after he retired in 1997, Sir Peter penned a book ‘Sounds from Another Room’ in which he tells the tale of what happened to him in 1954.

It was General Martin who called Sir Peter to a meeting at the residence of a Mrs. Markham who lived in Smith Street, Chelsea, London. General Martin believed in aliens and felt that they had been sent to Earth to prevent nuclear attacks.

On his arrival he was invited to meet a “Mr Janus”. He never saw this person but immediately felt that his mind was somehow being read. Mr Janus remained in the shadows, sat in a chair in the corner of a very dimly lit room. In total the meeting lasted just over two hours.

The discussions were based around the future nuclear capability of the UK. Peter felt comforted that Mr Janus was able to demonstrate a clear and detailed understanding of the military forces in the UK and gathered that he first hand knowledge of such. Mr Janus asked about Sir Peters beliefs in the existence of aliens and discussed outer space and time travel together.

Mr Janus explained that Earth had been under “observation” for a long time. It is believed they also discussed the group of people know as the observers who have supposedly been living among humans on Earth for decades.

During his career he was a member of the Royal household staff, including serving both the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.

So well thought of by the Royals, he can be seen in the above picture during the coronation of the Queen in 1953 where he took an active supporting role to the Duke. A decelerated military man, Sir Peter received the Air Force Cross in 1945, a CBE in 1964 and a knighthood in 1974.

Was it a strange coincidence that directly after Sir Peters meeting with Mr Janus, his career very quickly blossomed?

When Sir Peter published his book after retirement, he found himself shunned by most people in his life. He said “I don’t care what people think it was what happened. I would say they come from another planet somewhere in the universe but not in our galaxy. They are benign, not aggressive and, like us, are explorers”

He also explained that the Prince Philip himself was fascinated by the UFO phenomenon and that the pair would often discuss the matter. He said that that the Duke encouraged him to explore the topic and described him as a man with a “very open mind”. Even during his discussion with Mr Janus, the topic of Prince Philip was discussed. Mr Janus allegedly said on the subject

“He is a man of great vision. . . who believes strongly in the proper relationship between man and nature which will prove of great importance in future galactic harmony… perhaps you and I can discuss the subject first and you will be able to judge whether I’m dangerous or not.”

Why would a highly decolorated and well-connected man disclose such a tale if it wasn’t true? Until the day he died in 2001, Sir Peter remained steadfast in his recollection of events. Many theories have been debated over the years as to the validity of the strange meeting with Mr Janus. One theory was it was a test by MI5 as a way to test loyalty to the country.

It is believed Sir Peter disclosed the meeting to his superiors as soon as it was over and he also wrote down contemporaneous notes which adds legitimacy to his claims, but that he didn’t disclose it to the security services as he was unsure of their response. It’s a fascinating story…… what do you think?
