Those who have been glued to their seats watching the amazing Netflix show Hellier will know the Kentucky Goblins.
Let’s start in 1955 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky USA. The Taylor family were staying with their long-time friends the Suttons. Out visiting a nearby well, Billy Ray Taylor was amazed to see strange lights above him in the sky, almost as if the sky was burning. He believed what he saw was a UFO.
Rushing back to the house, his news was greeted with a jovial nod and a rolling of eyes. It was then the family dog started to bark and pace around. This is something he did when he could sense someone approaching the house. Setting the dog loose to explore as was custom, the dog disappeared outside.
Everyone was looking out of the windows to see what had spooked the dog, with two of the party venturing onto the porch to take a closer look, taking their rifles with them for protection. They all witnessed a small green glowing object. As they watched in amazement, it became apparent the glow was from a small humanoid looking creature. It suddenly ran at speed towards the house and naturally, the family fired their guns towards the creature. The shots simply knocked over the being that then fled back to the woods. It was only then that the family noticed another similar creature around the side of the home.

As more of the creatures appeared, the men continued to fire at them without the bullets having any effect, just simply knocking them over. They even thought at some points the creatures almost hovered. Billy Ray returned into the house to check on everyone and when he came back out of the front door, he had his hair grabbed by a glowing creature sat on the roof.
Immediately after this physical contact was made, both families got into their cars and sped off as fast as they could. All stated they could see multiple glowing creatures in the wood line just staring at them.

Reporting the incident to the Police, they returned with them to the property. The Police also called in the local Military from Fort Campbell due to the strange events. The Police and military left the property sometime after 2am not finding any evidence of what happened.
Shortly after the authorities left, the creatures returned into what became a stand-off between them and the families. It wasn’t until sunrise at around 5am that they retreated back towards the woods.
The following day after an article about the events appeared in the press, the farmhouse was awash with press, UFO hunters and nosy neighbours. It became so bad, that the family were forced to move. This incident had been debated many times over the years and it has even been suggested that the creatures they encountered were “aggressive great horned owls” as seen in the picture below…

As is always the case, sceptics say the whole thing was a hoax and that the family craved fame and fortune, but the story of the events that night never changed.

Further sightings
2021 – Kentucky.
A husband and wife were visiting a place named ‘Portal 31’. It’s an old mine that you tour around learning about the mining industry. After the tour and whilst waiting for his wife who was still inside, a man looked across the road at a ‘large power plant’ located opposite. To his surprise he saw three goblin-like creatures, around 3ft tall, looking back at him from the plant. He claims they appeared to go inside the plant and didn’t come back out.
2012 – Kentucky
A man claims he has been plagued by the goblins for around 6 months. He states they are around the size of a small child and peek through the windows of the house, making a chirping noise. He describes them playing in the garden areas and even on top of the house. Believing they came from an abandoned mine at the edge of his property, he states he is too frightened to explore any further and contacts a team of paranormal researchers to help. The man claims the goblins leave foot prints in the snow and had captured them on camera.

There are a number of documented phenomenon all over the state of Kentucky, particularly on the East side. Tales of people just disappearing, strange lights, humming noises and secret underground bases. What we do know is that the underground cave system in that area is largest in the world – well over 400 miles of tunnels have been mapped to date but researchers believe it is much deeper and further into the Earth than we first thought.
Goblins themselves appear in a variety of worldwide folk law with stories dating back as far as the Middle Ages. They are known to be mischievous and sometime malicious, living in mountainous areas, similar to the Kentucky Goblins. Goblins have even made their way into modern day life through such franchises as Harry Potter, The Gremlins, Warcraft and Pokémon.
Not the end of the story……
Going back to the beginning, and the story of the Hopkinsville case, many years later the family received a visit from a stranger who had been asked to pass on a message. The message was from a man stationed at Fort Campbell on the night of the first sighting and was made on his deathbed. He wanted the family to know that he was called out that evening to reports of a UFO crash. It was his job to retrieve the wreckage and take it to another base. He wanted them to know they were believed.
So maybe little green men do really exist?
