Classification of Incident (Hynek System): CE 1 – Nocturnal lights
Description:Witness noticed an extremely bright ball shaped light in the sky whilst looking out of his bedroom window having a cigarette, the object was travelling from east to west before disappearing out of view behind a row of houses. The object moved at a constant speed and the witness couldn’t hear any noise.
Conclusion:After viewing the footage provided by the witness, my initial thoughts are that this was a helicopter with it’s search light on. This was confirmed by the National Police Air Service (NPAS), who informed me that there was a police helicopter in the area at that time which was assisting Lancashire Police with an incident. With that information I’m happy to conclude that this sighting can be identified as a helicopter.
